Forensics, guns and money: Medium Rare launches the Acuity podcast

Acuity Podcast for Chartered Accountants CA ANZ

October 8, 2020

Medium Rare has partnered with Chartered Accountants ANZ (CA ANZ) to produce the Acuity podcast – a series designed to cover the issues, trends and tools that matter most to accountants and business leaders across the region.

CA ANZ boasts a membership of 120,000 –  a body that includes experts from a range of fields who tackle the big issues facing our nation: from climate risk and insolvency to forensic accounting and more.

Hosted by All in Advisory founder, Aly Garrett FCA, each episode of Acuity tackles one big theme, investigates a career segment with CA ANZ President Peter Rupp and shares secret accounting tips and tricks from Andrew Van De Beek, founder of Illumin8.

“Hosting the Acuity podcast has been a fantastic opportunity to connect with leading experts across the accounting field,” says Aly. “We get to know a little bit more about the person, delving into their stories and uncover what they do, why they do it and what impact it has on our community.”

The show not only offers a variety of CA voices, but it also shows the significant impact accountants have on the community.

The launch episode is all about ‘Forensics, guns and money’.

Forensic accountants tend to be hired by companies that anticipate or are preparing for disputes or litigation, often as a result of suspected fraud, theft or embezzlement. Thanks to COVID-19 and more people working from home, forensic accountants are more in demand than ever.

CA ANZ forensic accounting committee chair, Matthew Ashby, joins host Aly Garrett to discuss this fascinating line of work. Find out what it’s like to give expert advice in court and hear how Matthew was bundled into a black 4WD and sped off to the airport midway through a corruption case in South-east Asia.
