Auckland Council is the largest local government organisation in Australasia, and OurAuckland is the brand under which the Council communicates with Aucklanders across its owned channels.
In 2020 the Council decided to replace a previous magazine partnership with a broader content partnership and appointed Storyation, part of Medium Rare New Zealand, to bring that ambition to life.
In July 2021 we relaunched OurAuckland magazine as a bi-monthly magazine better reflecting its role as a mass reach channel better suited to more evergreen content that meets the Council’s communication goals.
More than 530,0000 copies delivered to mailboxes, libraries, cafes and transport hubs making it one of the highest circulating magazines in the country.
Meanwhile we substantially increased the volume of digital content to ensure that the audience was interacting with OurAuckland content much more frequently in the channels where they are spending the most time.
We did this while helping the Council to reduce its overall spend on OurAuckland content in a time of reduced budgets due to Covid-19.
Data gathered by the Auckland Council ‘Citizen’s Insights Monitor’ panel – a survey of 3000 Aucklanders aged 15 and over – in August 2021 shows 68% of those surveyed say they read the magazine and the majority rate the publication as “informative.”
